Injection A protein (collagenase) is injected into the cord to dissolve it.10 A day or so after the collagenase is injected, you or your doctor can break the cord by straightening the finger.11 Figure: Injection Advantages- No cuts will be made into your hand;- Recovery is faster than after open surgery and you are less likely to get stiff. Drawbacks- Only possible if you have a one prominent cord felt to be causing the bend;- Less suitable when several fingers and several joints are involved; - May not get the finger as straight as after open surgery;19- The bend can return faster than after open surger;- The injections are costly;- Some people have an immune response to the injection causing swelling and inflammation;- The bumps remain.
