A protein (collagenase) is injected into the cord to dissolve it.10

A day or so after the collagenase is injected, you or your doctor can break the cord by straightening the finger.11

Figure: Injection

- No cuts will be made into your hand;
- Recovery is faster than after open surgery and you are less likely to get stiff.

- Only possible if you have a one prominent cord felt to be causing the bend;
- Less suitable when several fingers and several joints are involved;
- May not get the finger as straight as after open surgery;19
- The bend can return faster than after open surger;
- The injections are costly;
- Some people have an immune response to the injection causing swelling and inflammation;
- The bumps remain.
