Cast Immobilization

The fracture may heal with a slight bend (angle). It may also heal with the radius shorter than the ulna. The wrist may look different. It also might not move as well. And there may be more discomfort a year after the injury if there is a bend or shortening.

It seems that people with more limited activity are less bothered by a bend or shortening. 1,2

It’s unknown if there’s a difference in symptoms, limitations, and subsequent surgery between people treated with a cast or with surgery.1,3,4,5

The fracture needs 3 months to be ready for heavy force.
