You must also wait for the incision to heal before you can be fit with a prosthesis. You may require PT or rehab to learn how to ambulate, although after 6 weeks most patients are able to start the process of fitting and adapting to their prosthesis. It can be up to one year before you adapt to your prosthesis completely.10
