Surgery

The skin is opened and the tendon is stitched back together. This can either be done by one large incision (image) or several small ones. The operation can either be done under general or regional anesthesia.

You wear a cast for a couple of weeks after surgery. It will take about 2 months before you are able to walk without a cast or brace, which is quicker than with non-surgical treatment. The process differs per hospital, below you can review an example of a treatment plan:

Day 1
  • Surgery
Weeks 1&2
  • Cast
  • Light weight-bearing on the leg
  • No walking
