Surgery can remove the cyst and its connection to the joint. The wound can initially be tender, red and thick. It improves for a year. The joint may be stiff for a similar time period.4,5

Results of surgery vary between studies but it is estimated that in around 95 of 100 patients the ganglion stays away.4,5
