Surgery

Surgery lines up the bone and holds it in place with a metal implant. The metal implant is usually a plate and screws on the outside of the bone. Depending on what is used, the implanted metal is removed 6 months after surgery. Some people have bothersome numbness or tenderness on their chest below the scar.
